FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology)
is a non-profit organization that encourages students to become
involved in science, mathematics, engineering and technology
through real-world context and hands-on experimentation. River
City Robots has been in St. Charles County since 2000 and also
supports a Robotic Team for students ages 14-18. The older team
was selected for national competition in 2004 in Atlanta, Ga.
Involvement for Lego Leagues center around building a robot and
competing in FIRST-style robotics events special designed for
their age group. Using LEGO bricks and other elements such as
sensors, motors and gears, teams gain hands-on experience in
engineering and computer programming principals as they construct
and program their unique robot inventions.
The students participated in their first Missouri State FIRST Lego
League Competition, Dec 3rd, at St. Charles Community College
Florissant Valley.
