In 2001, an 8^th grade student by the name of Matt Sherry was doing contract work with his dad at the house of Marcee Coonrod. While working, Matt commented about liking robots. Marcee replied that she was a volunteer at the FIRST St. Louis Robotics Regional. Their following discussion led to Matt becoming a volunteer. The next year, Matt and his father talked his neighbor, a retired Boeing engineer,  and Matt's metals teacher into helping create a robotics team. Thus, RCR was born.

Since that fateful collaboration, RCR has continued to evolve into a 501(c)3 non profit organization supporting FIRST team 1094 "The Channel Cats" and a multitude of FIRST Lego League teams. Currently , we have members originating throughout the St. Charles area.

Under the current leadership of LeAnn and Ralph, the River City Robots continue to grow into the future. The members may change as the years go by, however we will always endeavor to host a valuable asset to our existing and future members.
